AN AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

I Have Seen God

I have seen God –

· serving supper to hungry and homeless people at the Downtown Mission,

· welcoming a refugee family to their new home in Canada,

· blowing snow from an elderly neighbour’s driveway.

I have seen God -

· assembling a miniature kitchen as a gift for their granddaughter’s second birthday,

· sharing an orange with a rag-a-muffin kid,

· giving support to a hospital patient who has chosen MAID.

I have seen God –

· teaching delighted foreign university students how to ice skate,

· standing tall at a climate justice rally, speaking truth to power,

· taking hot soup to a lonely and housebound senior.

I have seen God -

· rejoicing at the birth of their new baby,

· weeping for wounded little ones in war-torn countries,

· lending a helping hand to a stranger who slipped and fell on an icy sidewalk.

I have seen God -

· sharing laughter with a lifelong friend,

· swapping stories from yesteryear with another old timer,

· speaking words of comfort to a hospice patient and his heartbroken young spouse.

I have seen God –

· standing up, and speaking up, for street people at a meeting of City Council,

· demanding justice for trafficked girls and women,

· advocating on behalf of exploited and marginalized migrant workers.

Yes, indeed, I have seen God.

I saw God yesterday.

I saw God today,

and I will see God again tomorrow,

for God is seen in the good we do.
