Our Mission Statement reads,
Westminster is an inclusive church for progressive Christians...
Creating something beautiful for God.
The above statements mean: we at Westminster United Church strive to have a faith-understanding and a mission and ministry, which are supportive, open-minded, hopeful, credible, inclusive, progressive and relevant to life in the 21st century.
We also strive ‘to be loving and compassionate as God is loving and compassionate’ [Luke 6:36]; and because we faithfully follow the teachings and example of Jesus of Nazareth we are advocates for peace as well as social and ecological justice.
We take the Bible seriously, but not literally.
Acknowledgement of Territory
Westminster United Church sits on the traditional territory
of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations,
which includes the Ojibwa, the Odawa, and the Potawatomie.
We respect the longstanding relationships with First Nations people in this place,
in the 100-mile Windsor-Essex Peninsula
and the straits - les detroits - of Detroit.
We Believe that following the path and teachings of Jesus can lead to an awarenessS and an experience of the Sacred and the Oneness and Unity of all life.
We Affirm the teachings of Jesus provide but one of the many ways to experience the Sacredness and Oneness of life, and that we can draw from diverse sourcesof wisdom in our spiritual journey.
We Seek community that is inclusive to ALL people, including but not limited to conventional ChrIstians and questioning skeptics, believers and agnostics, women and men, those of all sexual orientations and gender identities, those of all classes and abilities.
We Know the way we behave towards one another is the fullest expression of what we believe.
We Find grace in the search for understanding and believe there is more value in questioning than in absolutes.
We Strive for peace and justice among all people.
We Yearn to protect and restore the integrity of our Earth.
We Commit to a path of life-long learning, compassIon, and selfless love.
